Watch our short video on induction process for more detail

  • Should you throw new employees in at the deep end?

  • Should you have a good induction plan?

  • How does it impact on employee retention?

What does your induction process look like?

Picture the scene, your new employee arrives for their first day at work. What do you do?

“Bob, this is Jeff. Follow Jeff and copy him for the day. Tomorrow you’ll be ready to hit the ground running.”

OR

“Hi Bob, welcome. Here’s a plan of what we’re going to do over the next week. We’re going to go through all your paperwork, and make sure you fully learn the ropes.  We’ll review it again next week and make a plan for the following week.”

Which of these employees do you think is more likely to stay in their new job?

Which is likely to become more competent?

A good induction process is key to getting new employees quickly engaged and up to speed.

As tempting as it can be to throw employees in at the deep end, it can be really overwhelming and leave an employee feeling scared, confused, and even regretting their decision to join your business. Don’t underestimate the value of a good induction process.
