December is the worst month for drinking and driving offences
One in five people don’t know how long to wait before driving
Penalties include fines, bans and imprisonment
It’s party season, and it may not surprise you to learn that December is the worst month for drink driving offences.
In December 2017, 179 people per day were caught drinking and driving. More than a quarter of these were the morning after drinking.
In fact, one in five motorists don’t actually know how long they should wait after drinking until it’s safe to get behind the wheel again. And to some degree, everybody’s body is different.
As a guide, it takes on average an hour for your body to break down one unit of alcohol – that’s one 25ml shot of gin.
The same shot of gin is equivalent to 8g of pure alcohol and the current drink drive limit in England is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
In addition to that, drugs such as Cocaine and MDMA can stay in your system for 48 hours, and Cannabis for a whopping 336 hours.
Drink or drug driving carries penalties such as fines, driving bans, or even imprisonment.
It really might be worth educating your employees on the hazards and the penalties for drink and drug driving.
