No statutory right to time off for appointments
Be fair and consistent
Is it paid or unpaid, or time in lieu?
We get asked a lot what should the policy be for people who want to take time off for the doctors, the dentist, so here’s three tips for you in relation to time off for appointments and how to deal with requests.
- There’s nothing set in law. You can really do what you want.
- Be consistent. Make sure whatever you agree for Lisa, you let Claire do, you let Paul do, so that you’re treating everyone fairly and equally.
- Are you going to let people take the time off paid? Is it going to be unpaid? Time back in lieu? Whatever you decide, that’s OK, just make sure you’re consistent and do it for all your employees.
Do you have a policy? Is it fair and consistent? Do all your employees know what is expected of them?
