To celebrate International Women’s Day, Luke Pollard from burnley.co.uk has named five local women to inspire you and we are thrilled that our Managing Director, Lisa Sourbutts, was among the inspirational women who were celebrated.
Reacting to the news Lisa said, “I feel very proud. To be named alongside these amazing women in business is an absolute privilege”.
In his article Luke wrote the following about Lisa.
Lisa Sourbutts is the Managing Director of CUBE HR. They provide expert HR services for companies that aren’t large enough to have their own HR department.
Lisa has worked in HR for 18 years and started off with a great job for a large corporate, but a change in leadership meant she no longer felt people were top of the agenda so she resigned without a job to go to. During her three month notice period she was told that it would be a good idea to set up on her own business, which she went ahead with.
The first 2 years of CUBE HR was just Lisa providing HR support to small businesses. After getting more and more companies wanting a personal HR service, Lisa took a gamble and recruited someone. CUBE HR has continued to grow since.
When asked about her biggest challenge in the past four-and-a-half years of CUBE HR, Lisa unquestionably stated it was time: “Two years into CUBE I was back working silly hours as I was so busy and part of the reason for setting CUBE up was to get time back. Also, at the time the pandemic hit there were only two of us. I’d also just started my MBA at UCLan Burnley so juggling a very very busy business, in a pandemic, whilst doing an MBA was a massive challenge”.
Despite these challenges Lisa and the business are truly thriving. Through grit, hard-work and resilience, CUBE has won multiple awards over the past few years including a BIBA for Service Business of the Year and a Red Rose Award for Customer Service. On top of this, Lisa is about to launch their own HR software which will compliment CUBE’s offering significantly.
Lisa was joined on the list of inspirational women by Carole Garret, Lynette Ousby, Claire Whelan and Karen Buchanan, you can read the article in full at Five women to inspire you on #InternationalWomensDay – Burnley
