Watch our demonstration of the contract variation process
Explain your rationale
Listen to the employee’s concerns
Try to reach an agreement
Sometimes amending an employee’s contractual terms can be fairly straightforward – you explain the change and the reason behind it, they agree and sign new terms and everyone’s happy.
But sometimes it can be much more complex as one or more employees just won’t accept the changes. They may have a number of reasons, but ultimately you know you need to make the contract variation for the good of the business, so what do you do next?
The third of our Monday Mode sessions demonstrates the contract variation process, along with some common objections and how to handle them.
When you need to amend an employee’s contract a large part of the process is in how you communicate – what is your reason for the change, how will it affect the employee as an individual and the team as a whole, will it permanent or temporary?
If you do need to make a contract variation, please do ask us for help so we can ensure you don’t leave yourself at risk of unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal and discrimination claims.
